Movement Retreats: Pilates & Yoga Trips Abroad

A movement retreat, whether it’s a Pilates retreat or a yoga retreat, is a small-group trip built around feeling good in your body: morning Pilates or yoga, gentle evening stretches, and plenty of free time in between. Every class works for all levels, and we take care of the lodging, airport transfers, and every detail.

A Note from Lindsay

Why a movement retreat?

At 27, a herniated disc took running off the table, and some days I could barely walk. That’s what led me to Pilates, and eventually to teaching it, and I’ve seen how powerful movement can be when it’s combined with travel and time away from daily life.
That’s the feeling behind every Pilates retreat and yoga retreat we offer: classes that work for every level, real time to rest, and everything optional. This is about feeling good in your body, not training for something.
– Lindsay

A Day on a Movement Retreat

What a day actually looks like

Every itinerary is different, and everything is optional. Here’s how most days on our Movement Retreats go.

Optional meditation or journaling, then the day’s class: Pilates Reformer in small groups in Portugal, Pilates in Morocco’s Ourika Valley, or yoga on an open-air deck.

Brunch or lunch together, often chef-prepared at the retreat house.

Free time. Swim in the pool, book a massage, wander a market town, or join an outing like an olive grove visit and olive oil tasting.

Some evenings start with a gentle session, like stretching, moving meditation, or yin yoga with live piano. Then dinner together.

In Their Words

What it’s really like.

“The balance of structure and freedom was perfect, morning and evening Pilates sessions were offered, but there was no pressure. Each day, we were encouraged to tune in and choose what felt best for our bodies.”
– Kaitlyn M., Pilates retreat 2025

A few common questions

Movement Retreat FAQ

“It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. I checked off bucket list items like zip lining/canyoning, dove deeper into Pilates each day, and was introduced to meditation and sound baths which were a first for me.”
– Miranda S., Azores 2025

A movement retreat, like a Pilates retreat or yoga retreat, is a small-group trip built around feeling good in your body: Pilates and yoga, balanced with real rest and time to explore. Away Retreats handles the logistics, from airport transfers to lodging and the group activities.

A deposit reserves your spot (you’ll see the amount on each retreat’s room cards), and the remaining balance is due 120 days before the retreat starts. A payment plan is available on every retreat, as long as everything is paid in full by then. Each retreat page lists its cancellation terms.

As active as you want them to be. Every class works for all levels, and outside of class you might explore a market town, join an outing, or spend the afternoon by the pool. Each retreat page describes its days in detail.

Every Movement Retreat includes pre-trip and logistics support, airport transfers, lodging, most meals, and the classes and group activities on the itinerary. Each retreat page lists exactly what’s included. Travel insurance is required on every trip, and we include a recommended provider in your confirmation email.

Absolutely. Solo travelers are welcome on every retreat. Each retreat page lists its room options, from private rooms to shared rooms matched with another guest.

No experience needed, ever. Every class on a Pilates retreat or yoga retreat works for all levels, from your first class to your five hundredth, and instructors adjust as they go. Everything is optional, so you can join a class, take it easy, or skip it.
