How we plan every retreat
I started Away Retreats to create the kind of trips I’ve always wanted to take myself. Today, our team of hosts designs and leads every retreat, and we still visit every location in person before we ever bring a group, and we stay in touch with our partners on the ground all year. We know them, and we know their families.
After you book, we call you, so we know what you’re hoping for, what you eat (or don’t), and whether you’d rather hike at sunrise or sleep in. Then every day becomes a menu of choices, not a schedule, so the week fits the people who actually show up.
Every retreat is different, and what you get out of it is up to you. Our job is to take care of everything else.

Everything is handled before you land
Accommodation, most meals, activities, local guides, and airport transfers are all researched and booked for you. You don’t coordinate anything.
The itinerary is a menu, not a schedule
Every activity is optional. Sleep in. Join the morning walk. Take a solo afternoon. There is no roll call. Nobody is tracking what you do with your time, and nobody will ask where you were.
Small groups, small enough to matter
We keep every group small, so nobody gets lost in the group and nobody has to perform for it either. Most guests arrive not knowing anyone. Most leave with people they’ll travel with again.
Every trip gives back!
A percentage of profit from every retreat goes to a local organization where it’s held, like Oaxaca Youth Empowerment in Mexico and Somos Esperança in Portugal. It’s built into the cost of the trip, not an add-on. We don’t just visit a place. We leave something there.
