Inside the Portugal Pilates Reformer Retreat

Lindeza. In Portuguese, it means beauty or loveliness, and it sums up this Portugal Pilates Reformer retreat in Loulé, where we slow down and savor the quiet charm of the Algarve.
Our home for the week is a country estate just outside town, surrounded by olive trees and rolling hills. Mornings start with reformer Pilates overlooking the countryside, then coffee and a chef-prepared brunch. Afternoons are for the heated saltwater pool, a massage, or a book in the shade.
Beyond the estate, we’ll wander Loulé’s cobblestone streets, cafés, and markets, and walk a traditional olive grove to taste oil straight from the source. Evenings end with dinner around the table and easy, unhurried conversation.

Reformer Pilates Instructor & Retreat Host

Those who’ve practiced with Brittany know her classes are grounded, challenging, and joyful, much like Brittany herself. When she’s not on the mat, she’s planning her next adventure. This retreat brings both passions together: daily movement in an unforgettable setting, and a whole lot of fun along the way.

Itinerary

The Day-to-Day in Loulé

Everything is optional on all of our experiences. This is your retreat. You choose what you’d like to do each day.

  • Mornings: a reformer Pilates class in two small groups of 8, then a chef-prepared brunch at the retreat house.
  • Afternoons: free time for the heated saltwater pool, a massage at the house, a book in the shade, or an extra outing.
  • Evenings: an early evening session at 5:30, like journaling, moving meditation, or gentle stretching, then group dinner at the retreat house at 7:00.

We go with the flow and enjoy the slower pace of southern Portugal, so activities may move between morning and afternoon depending on the weather.

Fly into Faro Airport (FAO), where transportation to the estate is included. Settle into your room, meet the group, and enjoy our first dinner at the retreat house.

Afternoon: a Portuguese pastry tasting, then time to settle in and enjoy the retreat house.

Afternoon: wander Loulé’s cobblestone streets, cafés, artisan workshops, and markets.

Afternoon: visit a traditional olive grove, see a Roman-era olive press, and taste oils straight from the grove.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy the pool, book a massage, or head out on an extra outing like the Ria Formosa or a winery.

After breakfast, transportation back to Faro Airport (FAO).

What your days actually look like.

Here, days follow an easy rhythm: movement in the morning, long meals around the table, and plenty of space to explore, rest, or simply be.

The Place

Aerial view of a white country estate with an infinity pool surrounded by olive trees and hills near Loulé

A Portuguese Country Estate

Set in the quiet countryside just outside Loulé, our home for the week is surrounded by olive trees and rolling hills. Peaceful, spacious, and beautifully designed, it’s part of the experience itself.

Pool with sun loungers, umbrellas, and a shaded daybed in front of white villas

Heated Saltwater Pool

Algarve days are often sunny, but April mornings and evenings can feel cool, which makes a warm swim all the more inviting. Relax by the pool and take in the countryside views.

Pedestrian street with wave-patterned cobblestones, pastel buildings, and potted plants

Explore Loulé

Just 20 minutes from the coast, Loulé (loh-LAY) still feels like a lived-in Portuguese town, with local cafés, artisan workshops, tiled buildings, and cobblestone streets. We’ll have time to wander, shop, and stop for coffee or a pastry.

The Movement

Guests on reformers during an outdoor class at the Portugal Pilates retreat

Daily Reformer Pilates

Mornings begin with reformer Pilates at the house. With 8 reformers for 16 guests, we split into two smaller groups, so every class feels personal, with thoughtful instruction in a peaceful setting.

Open-air covered studio with mats, bolsters, and blocks set out beside a stone wall and garden

Fascia & Massage Ball Stretch

A restorative session that uses massage balls to gently target tight spots, release tension, and improve mobility, so your body can unwind and move more freely.

Mats and bolsters arranged in a circle on a wooden deck with views over green hills toward the sea

Moving Meditation

Rather than sitting still for long stretches, our meditation blends gentle movement, breath, and guided reflection to help you feel present, grounded, and connected.

The Flavors

Plates of smashed avocado toast topped with poached eggs and seeds on a wooden table

Chef-Prepared Meals

Brunches and dinners are made with fresh, local ingredients, including plenty of fresh seafood, and reflect the flavors of the region. Meals are mostly omnivore, and dietary needs are thoughtfully accommodated.

Olive Grove & Oil Tasting

Wind down a long, tree-lined drive to a traditional olive grove. Walk the grove, learn how olive oil is made, see a Roman-era olive press, and finish with a tasting of oils straight from the grove.

Portuguese Pastry Tasting

Our first full afternoon starts on a sweet note with a pastry tasting, followed by time to settle in and enjoy the retreat house.

The Slow Moments

Bright living room with vaulted white beams, terracotta floors, woven pendant lights, and sofas

Space to Be

Curl up with a book, journal, or settle into a comfortable corner with coffee. The house invites connection when you want it and quiet when you need it.

Evening Sessions

Before dinner, gather for gentle early evening sessions like journaling, moving meditation, and stretching, plus a sound bath during the week (you lie back and relax while singing bowls and other instruments fill the room with sound).

Digital Detox

Step back from the noise and reconnect with yourself, the group, and the place around you. There’s no right way to unplug, so choose what feels supportive for you.

Late April is one of the most comfortable times to visit Loulé. It’s generally mild and sunny, and the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet. Expect temperatures of about 55 to 73°F (13 to 23°C).

Mornings are comfortable for movement and walks, and afternoons are usually warm enough to spend time outside, explore nearby towns, or relax by the pool. Evenings are cooler, so a light sweater is usually all you’ll need for dinner outdoors.

All classes are accessible to all levels, and everything is optional. Each morning includes one reformer Pilates class in a small group of 8, and early evening sessions are gentle, like stretching and moving meditation. Exploring Loulé means some walking on cobblestone streets, so bring comfortable shoes.
